The sequel to a ZX Spectrum game some 30 years in the making

I thought the nigh on 20 years I waited for Shenmue 3 was approaching some sort of record, but this - this is something else. Jetboard Joust, which just hit Steam late last week, is a sequel to the ZX Spectrum's Skateboard Joust, released way, way back in 1988. It's fair to say, though, that there weren't quite so many people waiting with baited breath for this particular follow-up.

"Yeah, it was a bit crap," admits Skateboard Joust's developer James Closs tells me some 30 plus years later. "I mean, that's part of the reason I started doing this - it was a bit of a joke, because Skateboard Joust was not very good."

Skateboard Joust was made back when James was 16. He had never played Joust, the game from which it took some inspiration, but had seen a screenshot once. He'd never ridden a skateboard but knew it was all the rage, so he fashioned a game to capitalise on the trend. Back then the term granny bait used to be bandied around - a game designed to trick people into buying their grandchildren. By James' own admission, Skateboard Joust could well have fit the term.

Gears of War Mobile Spin-Off Gears Pop! To Shut Down in 2021

Gears of War mobile spin-off Gears Pop!, the multiplayer PvP battle arena-style game, will be shutting down on April 26, 2021. Gears Pop!, which was developed by Fall Guys developer Mediatonic, will be closing down because of "a number of things that go into maintaining a game beyond keeping servers active. Addressing issues, developing content, and providing support are critical in keeping a game running. Unfortunately, this is no longer feasible." [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2019/08/22/10-minutes-of-gears-pop-gameplay"] While the game is still running, Gears Pop! will see some of its most popular events return, Bounty rewards will be increased, and the drop rates for Legendary Pins will be increased. It was also mentioned that all in-app purchasing has been disabled, effective immediately. Refunds will be issued automatically for all those purchases made 90 days prior to October 28, 2020. These may take a few weeks to be processed. Gears Pop! Was revealed during Microsoft's E3 2018 press conference and surprised the gaming world with a game that mashed together Gears of War with Funko Pops. It released on mobile devices on August 22, 2019. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/10/23/gears-5-xbox-series-xs-update-trailer"] For those looking for happier Gears of War news following this unfortunate announcement, The Coalition revealed that Gears 5's Xbox Series X/S update will bring with it a New Game+, the option to put a Dave Bautista skin on Marcus Fenix during the campaign with a new voice over, multilayer updates, visual upgrades, and even brand new story DLC later this year. Everspace 2 Delayed Because of Cyberpunk 2077's New Release Date

Everspace 2's Early Access release has been delayed due to Cyberpunk 2077 moving its date to December 10, 2020. Everspace 2 follows Path of Exile's 3.13 end-game expansion's delay to January 2021 and, as Rockfish Games said in a Kickstarter update to Everspace 2 backers, this was a "major blow" to the studio. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/08/27/everspace-2-trailer-highlights-space-combat-while-dodging-asteroids-and-space-stations"] "Let’s get the cyber elephant out of the room right away: The Cyberpunk 2077 release has just been pushed back to December 10, which is a major blow to our planned EVERSPACE 2 Early Access release in mid-December," Rockfish Games said. "Not only will every media outlet and content creator cover the arguably most-anticipated AAA game in history throughout the entire holiday season (and not much else), we also know that there’s quite a bit of audience overlap within our community (and our team), so... After a quick consultation with our marketing friends at Evolve PR, Plan Of Attack, and Swordfish PR, we’ve decided to push back the EVERSPACE 2 Early Access release to January. We know that sucks, but hear us out! There’s actually some good in this." The good news is that any Kickstarter backer that doesn't have access to the Closed Beta will receive a pre-release key on November 2, 2020. This will allow any who pledged for a digital copy to be able to experience the first "10ish hours of what we have planned for Early Access." There is no time constraint, and the Closed Beta can be played as many times as desired. Everspace 2 was announced at Gamescom 2019's Opening Night Live for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC and is a fast-paced single-player space shooter with deep explorations, tons of loot, and classic RPG elements. FromSoftware Thanks Fans for Elden Ring Support, But Offers No New Info

A Tweet from FromSoftware about its upcoming game Elden Ring has caused fans around the world to rejoice, yet it offered no new info and simply thanked  fans for all the enthusiasm and support shown for the Dark Fantasy Action RPG. FromSoftware, alongside a Tweet about the newest update for Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, wanted to ensure fans that Elden Ring is still on its way, and that the developer truly appreciates all the excitement surrounding the game that is being built with the help of A Song of Ice and Fire author George R.R. Martin. Screenshot_2020-10-31 FROMSOFTWARE on Twitter"We also greatly appreciate all the enthusiasm and support shown for "ELDEN RING", our next Dark Fantasy Action RPG. FIFA Packs Confirmed As Form of Gambling in Netherlands

FIFA 21 packs are confirmed to be a form of gambling by the Netherlands. EA faces up to 5 million euros in fines if they continue to violate the country's laws. Over the past few years, government pushback against loot boxes has really started to increase. EA Sports and its FIFA franchise have been one of the games many countries around the world have been looking at. In fact, Belgium and the Netherlands have both banned loot boxes because of how they violate those countries’ gambling laws. Now, the Netherlands has upheld its original ruling and will be fining EA for up to 5 million euros. This is, as you might expect, pretty big news for the FIFA community. Loot boxes in the form of packs are the main money-maker for Ultimate Team and, as more countries come out with bans, the mode could be forced to change. Hopefully, the changes benefit the consumer, but it’s hard to see that being the case given how much money EA makes off of packs. I will fully admit that I don’t have any idea what the answer to the loot box problem is. Obviously, if EA only gives out packs as a reward for gameplay, that takes away the gambling aspect. However, it also makes it much tougher for new or bad players to jump into the game. That said, EA started incorporating season passes for FUT over the last two years. Those could alleviate that problem to some degree. Regardless of any changes EA might make, this is a big step for the future of Ultimate Team like modes. If more European countries continue to regulate loot boxes, the genre could be in for some massive changes over the coming years. No matter what, it’s clear that this is a story worth paying attention to. Especially, if you play any game with randomized microtransactions.

Call of Duty 2021 First Details Reportedly Leaked

A new Call of Duty leak has offered up our first alleged details on Call of Duty 2021, which sounds like it may be Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, and thus developed by Infinity Ward. Next month, Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War will release via the PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, and PC. As a result, it's dominating the Call of Duty news cycle alongside 2019's Modern Warfare and Warzone. However, we are also only a year away from Call of Duty 2021, which means details about the installment are starting to surface. The first details on the rumored game come way of prominent Call of Duty leaker and content creator Tom Henderson, whose name you may recognize for a variety of leaks pertaining to Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, and Call of Duty: Warzone. According to Henderson, next year's Call of Duty is another "Modern Warfare title of some kind" with a "modern-day setting." Unfortunately, this is the details end, but as Henderson notes, it's quite possible this will be a remake of Modern Warfare 2.

New PlayStation Patent Hints at Secret PS5 Feature

A new PlayStation patent possibly hints at a secret PS5 feature that Sony hasn't revealed yet. The PS5 is only a couple of weeks away from release, however, there's still plenty about the console we don't know. For example, we haven't seen how the PlayStation Store looks on PS5. Presumably, Sony will address these lingering question marks about the console in the coming days, but in the meantime, a recently filed patent may have spilled some of the beans it was preparing. More specifically, last week Sony filed for a patent that seems to have outed that the PS5 will be capable of auto HDR. The patent itself is in Japanese, so there's a possibility context and salient information is being lost in translation, however, as you can see the evidence is pretty compelling.

Rainbow Six Quarantine Release Date Delayed

Ubisoft’s seldom-seen Rainbow Six Quarantine has been delayed further beyond its already uncertain timeframe and is now scheduled to be release some time between April 2021 and March 2022. Like many other games and other entertainment releases that have been pushed back this year, the delay was attributed in part to the working complications resulting from COVID-19. This will be the second time that the game has been pushed back following the first delay that included this game and others like Watch Dogs: Legion. The decision to delay the game was announced in Ubisoft’s latest earnings report where it discussed recent achievements and some of the ways plans have shifted in light of this year’s events. The Rainbow Six Quarantine was one of the casualties of the complications along with Far Cry 6 which has similarly been pushed back to the same timeframe as the new Rainbow Six game.

What do the new generation's controllers mean for accessibility?

It's an exhilarating time to play games. The Xbox Series X and PS5! The next generation of consoles is almost in our hands! It's time to say goodbye to loading screens and hello to fun new possibilities.

New consoles have historically meant new controllers, though. As a disabled gamer with accessibility requirements, the news of a next-generation controller creates fear and uncertainty, and these emotions are echoed by many disabled gamers. I've experienced this fear during the previous generation's move to the Dualshock 4. For a while, I thought my only option was to hang up my gaming gloves. But in fact, that was when I discovered the gaming accessibility community and realised that the gaming industry was working to become more inclusive.

And it has. This generation has given us games with ground-breaking accessibility settings like Gears 5, Shadow of the Tomb Raider and The Last of Us 2. And now, these next-gen consoles will be the first generation where accessibility thinking is truly present from the start, ready for game developers to innovate further.

Have You Played… World Of Horror?

A screenshot showing a ruined building on a computer screen in World Of Horror.

I am not usually one for horror games. I don’t like jump scares and I prefer my video games to be chill and relaxing instead of stressing me out to high heaven. To be honest, I’m still not sure why I decided to put myself through panstasz’s all-caps World Of Horror last week when the name itself would normally be a big, all-caps “Nope” for me. But it was on Game Pass, and I’ve been mildly intrigued by its 1-bit, Junji Ito-esque art style ever since I clapped eyes on it (through cracks in my fingers, natch), and with the autumn sun blazing in through my window over the weekend, I thought, “What’s the worst that could happen?” A lot, it turns out.

Apex Legends’ Season 7 launch trailer shows off new Olympus map

Apex Legends‘ new launch trailer for Season 7 has dropped, and it’s given us our best look at the new Olympus map yet, alongside some other goodies. The trailer has a simple plot line that follows Pathfinder, Mirage, and Rampart as they snatch a ship and find themselves on Olympus. The map is rendered in Respawn’s favoured cel-shaded style as it’s cinematic, but the vibe of it is very much there. While the Kings Canyon and World’s Edge maps come with mayhem and Mad Max vibes, Olympus is much cleaner. It looks like a futuristic, high-end research facility that’s much brighter thanks to the white buildings and colourful flowers. It’s set in the sky, though, so do watch your step. Alongside Olympus, we also got a look at the Trident, which you can use to ferry your teammates about when they inevitably get stuck out in the ring. There’s even more of Apex Legends’ new character Horizon, a Scottish astrophysicist with an interesting accent. Being from up north myself, it feels like hearing someone who is halfway between ma wee mam and a reporter on BBC Scotland.

PS5 Fans Are Very Concerned About Ubisoft's Comments on PS4 Backwards Compatibility

French publisher admits there may be inaccuracies.

There’s been a rollercoaster unfolding on social media and enthusiast forums today, after Ubisoft included a throwaway comment in a blog post suggesting that several of its Assassin’s Creed and PlayStation VR titles would not be playable on the PlayStation 5 via backwards compatibility. “Most of our back catalogue of games will have backward compatibility between the next and current generation of consoles, with a few exceptions,” a spokesperson for the French firm said.

These games, allegedly, include: Assassin’s Creed Syndicate, Assassin’s Creed Chronicles Trilogy Pack, Assassin’s Creed Chronicles: India, Assassin’s Creed Chronicles: China, Assassin’s Creed Chronicles: Russia, Risk, Star Trek: Bridge Crew, Werewolves Within, and Space Junkies. It’s a considerable assembly of titles, particularly when you consider Sony recently said that only 10 PS4 games would not work on PS5.

All Compatible Xbox Games Playable on Xbox Series X/S Day one

All Xbox games that are currently playable on Xbox One will be making the trip to the next-gen hardware on the first day of its release. If there is one thing that Microsoft has done right in the Xbox One era, it has been the company’s continued dedication to backward compatibility. Previously, the team at Xbox has said that it plans to continue that dedication moving forward on the Xbox Series X/S, but until now, we haven’t known whether or not every title in that currently works on Xbox One would be compatible with the new hardware on day one. Well, as of today, we finally have our answer to that question. Over on Twitter this morning, Xbox’s Jason Ronald confirmed that the Xbox Series X/S will allow you to play all titles from the larger Xbox library that are currently compatible on Xbox One when the new consoles release. This means that all games from the Xbox, Xbox 360, and Xbox One that are presently playable on current-gen hardware will seamlessly be making the jump to Series X/S. Ronald said that this feat was achievable thanks to over 500,000 hours of testing that the team at Microsoft has put in.

PlayStation Plus Free Games for November 2020 Revealed

Sony Interactive Entertainment has revealed the free PlayStation Plus games PS4 and PS5 players will get for the month of November. And for the release month of the PS5, Sony is throwing in an extra game, or more specifically, an extra PS5 game. In other words, rather than two free games, November's offering will include three free games. Two of these games will be PS4 titles, but one will be a PS5 title, or more specifically, Bugsnax, a PS5 launch game. The two PS4 games -- Middle-earth: Shadow of War and Hollow Knight: Voidheart Edition -- will be available starting on November 3 and will be 100 percent free to download until December 3. Meanwhile, Bugsnax won't be available until November 12, when the PS5 launches, however, to make up for this, it will be available all the way until January 4. That said, only the PS5 version of the game will be free. Bugsnax will also be available on PS4, but this version won't be free via PS Plus. Below, you can read more about all three games, as well as check out trailers for each game. Note that PlayStation Plus 1-year memberships can currently be had for 51% off.

Resident Evil 3 – Cloud Version For Switch Reference Found

Today Nintendo decided to drop a Direct Mini with no announcement or fanfare, something that’s become increasingly common it seems, which had a lot of surprising announcements. Maybe the biggest surprise was having streaming cloud version of two major titles, with Control being available today and Hitman 3 coming at some point in the future. Well, it seems people have been doing some digging and more could be coming. As found by the resourceful folks at the ResetERA gaming forum, when datamining the website for the cloud version of Control, you can find links and references to a cloud version for Resident Evil 3, the remake of the classic title that was released earlier this year, you can even see the cover that was discovered below. If you aren’t aware, Nintendo tried the cloud streaming thing in Japan with a few titles, including Resident Evil 7, as what seems to have been an experiment for this. While only RE3 was discovered, most likely it would also mean that 7 and the remake of Resident Evil 2 would also be good candidates to see cloud releases. Like all things datamining, you have to take it with a grain of salt, but as of now there’s no reason to expect this is a fake and it definitely seems to be more than just a case of leftover code or something of that nature. Only time will tell, but don’t be too surprised to see the classic survival horror series get some cloud versions for Nintendo’s portable soon.

Halo Infinite Loses Another Director in Chris Lee

Halo Infinite's rate of turnover in the director's chair continues, this time around with 343 veteran Chris Lee announcing his departure from the game. Halo Infinite was originally set to be launching in a mere two weeks alongside the Xbox Series X/S, but instead, the upcoming shooter looks to be going through some more struggles internally. In a new report from Bloomberg, 343 Industries’ Chris Lee, who served as a director on Halo Infinite, is now said to have left the project altogether after his role with it was said to be essentially done away with. Lee served as not only one of the primary producers working on the forthcoming Halo title, but he also served as the studio head at 343. Lee has been with the company since 2008 and is still said to be an employee of Microsoft.

What's Up With The Frame Rate In The Hyrule Warriors: Age Of Calamity Demo?

It's all over the place.

Nintendo recently released a demo for Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity on the Switch earlier this week and while many Zelda fans have been enjoying it, one common concern seems to be about the game's frame rate.

Frame rate tests so far reveal the game is targeting around 30fps, but in reality, it can dip as low as 20fps. It seems to be up and down like a yo-yo and well, people have noticed. Here's what one member of the GameXplain team had to say about it:

This Is What the PS Camera Adaptor for PSVR on PS5 Looks Like

Plastic fantastic.

Do you know what PlayStation VR was missing? Another bloody cable! Sony’s somewhat short-sightedness means that the proprietary slot used for the PlayStation Camera on the PlayStation 4 is no more on the PlayStation 5, and thus it’s having to supply PSVR users with a free adaptor to make up for its foolishness.

As previously reported, new PSVR bundles in Japan will come with said accessory in the box, and here’s your first look at the additional piece of plastic in the flesh. It was photographed by new PSVR owner @HiLL_SHERPA on Twitter, and is a little larger than we’d expected. Basically, it’s a rectangular piece of plastic, with an input port for the PS Camera on one end and a short USB cable on the other.

PS5 Accessibility Options Detailed, Screen Reader and Colour Correction

Plus already existing PS4 features.

Sony has today detailed the accessibility options that will ship with PlayStation 5 to enable disabled gamers to properly take advantage of the next-gen console. As well as bringing back features already available on PlayStation 4, the system will empower those who are blind with the option to hear on-screen text spoken aloud. Meanwhile, deaf or hard of hearing players can type in their messages and have them read aloud to members of the party. All of this encompasses a new feature named Screen Reader, with multiple languages supported.

The PS5 will also support colour correction, which allows users to tweak and edit colour. Sony then goes on to confirm that the haptic feedback and adaptive triggers of the DualSense controller can be turned off entirely if you so wish. "PS5 will also include improved audio enhancements to provide players with better spatial awareness." Following concern from the disabled community over the decision to scrap the use of PS4 controllers on PS5, the ability to turn off the DualSense's features must surely be welcome news.

Call Of Duty: Black Ops Cold War Integration with CoD: Warzone Detailed

We now know more details about how Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War will integrate with Warzone.

During Activision Blizzard Q3 earnings call, Activision Publishing president Rob Kostich mentioned that Black Ops Cold War “really start to work together in cool and fun ways” with Warzone in December when the first season for Cold War launches.

There was no specific date revealed in the call for Cold War’s season one launch.

That being said, we hear that players will be able to bring their Black Ops Cold War weaponry & operators to Warzone.

“Core Black Ops progression will build upon the success and will work similarly to how it did in Modern Warefare,” Kostich said in the earnings call.

According to Kostich, weapons that players unlock between level 1-55 in Black Ops Cold War will be usable in both Cold War and in Warzone.

Activision also announced that Black Ops Cold War will continue to follow Modern Warfare’s monetization system as Cold War will have an all-new Battle pass.

Black Ops Cold War battle pass content and store content will also work across Black Ops and Warzone with Kostich adding that players will be able to choose between their Modern Warfare loadouts and Cold War loadouts once the game is integrated.

“This is just one example of how Warzone is going to expand and evolve over time,” Kostich said.

More information of Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War’s first season will be announced in the “next week or two.”

For now, Call of Duty fans will only have the three core modes at Cold War’s launch: Campaign, Multiplayer and Zombies. You can check out the launch trailer for Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War to get hyped for the next iteration of Call of Duty.

We also broke down everything else from the Q3 earnings call in this article here.

Xbox Boss ‘delighted’ by early Xbox Series X/S reviews

Microsoft says it’s very pleased with the early critical reception to its Xbox Series X/S consoles ahead of their worldwide release on November 10. The company launched Xbox Series X/S pre-orders on September 22, around the same time preview units started being distributed to press and influencers. Speaking during Microsoft’s first quarter earnings call on Tuesday, CEO Satya Nadella said: “We are delighted by early reviews and excitement in the Xbox Series S and Xbox Series X, which will be the most affordable and the most powerful consoles available.” Initial Xbox Series X stock was snapped up quickly, with some retailers later informing players they might not receive their console on the day of release. Microsoft has said it plans to make more Xbox Series X/S consoles available on launch day after “record-breaking” demand for the next-gen systems.

PlayStation is Still Planning for More Acquisitions in the Future

Moving into the PS5 era, PlayStation head Jim Ryan says the business still has a desire to grow its first-party presence where it makes sense to do so. With the PS5 already flying off of the proverbial shelf, it doesn’t sound as though Sony will be resting on its laurels when it comes to growing in the upcoming generation. In a new conversation with Reuters, PlayStation President Jim Ryan said that the company is still looking to grow over time in the form of various mergers or acquisitions. Ryan specified that it would be looking to grow in an organic manner “where we can bolster our in-house capability with selective M&A that might be possible.” In recent years, Sony has continued to express that it has a desire to grow through acquisitions, but it hasn’t made as many moves compared the company’s closest competitor in Microsoft. The newest studio to join Sony’s larger PlayStation Studios label has been that of Insomniac Games, which was purchased in 2019. The developer is soon set to release Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales on both PS5 and PS4 next month.

PlayStation 5 automatically records the moment players earn a Trophy

PlayStation 5 automatically records a short video capturing the moment when players earn a Trophy. While PS4 enables players to automatically save a screenshot whenever they earn a trophy, Sony’s next-gen console goes one step further. Kinda Funny’s Greg Miller demonstrated how the updated achievement system works during a video preview (above) of Astro’s Playroom, the game which comes pre-installed with PS5. It seems that the Trophy recording feature is enabled by default, but as with PS4’s Trophy screenshot feature, players should be able to disable it if they want. Sony overhauled the PlayStation Trophies system earlier this month, introducing new Trophy levels and a new level calculation structure. An embargo on PS5 coverage lifted earlier today. The first PS5 unboxing videos have been published by various media outlets, after US-based publications received their review units last week. Press have also finally been able to compare the size of retail PS5 units to other consoles. And multiple Astro’s Playroom previews and gameplay videos have been published, including the following.

Nvidia GeForce RTX 3060 Ti Listed by an Asian Retailer for Pre-Order

Nvidia RTX 3060 Ti seems to be a soon-to-be-announced GPU as it has already been listed by an asian retailer for pre-order. Tomorrow, AMD will officially reveal and launch its brand new RX 6000 GPUs and many assume that Nvidia will unveil RTX 3060 Ti as another member of the new Ampere RTX family to lower down the hype for AMDs new set of the graphics card. 3060 Ti has recently listed by a retailer in Asia for pre-order. Previously, Nvidia’s RTX 3060 Ti has been listed on the webpage for Eurasian Economic Commission in order to receive a certain certification for its release by Gigabyte. Even before that, various insiders were talking about a low-tier Ti-branded graphics card from Nvidia that would be added to the current family of RTX 3000 cards. The rumors around 3060 Ti even get stronger with some geeks spotting an advertisement for this unannounced graphics card on the webpage of a Chinese retailer, up for pre-order. PS5 DualSense Controller Haptics Can be Turned Off

One of the biggest new features Sony is touting for the upcoming PlayStation 5 is the haptic responses on the PS5 DualSense controllers. But Sony cautions that players with injuries in their hands or joints should turn the feature off, which anyone can do through the settings. According to a blurb in the PS5 instruction booklet (first reported by @_Caprica), which IGN can verify, vibrations and trigger effects can be turned off using through the Accessories tab in the Settings option. The PS5 booklet says, “Do not use the vibration or trigger effect features if you have any ailment or injury to the bones, joints, or muscles of your hands or arms.” The instructions continue, “If you have an ailment or an injury, do not play titles with these features using the controller unless you have set those functions to ‘Off’.” The haptic feedback in the Sony PS5 DualSense controller is described as an immersion feature that goes well beyond rumble features. Common examples Sony previously offered when describing the DualSense include features like simulating the sand on a beach through vibrations or making the trigger buttons tenser to simulate pulling back on a bow.  However, players with difficulties in their hands or joints due to injury or disability may not be able to comfortably use those features. The other free game is Blair Witch, which has an original story and takes place two years after the events of the first film, The Blair Witch Project, and initially launched last year for PC and Xbox One.

Both games can be claimed for free from the Epic Games Store starting today until Thursday, Nov. 5 at 11 a.m. ET. The store is also holding a Halloween sale with 144 discounted titles until the same day.

Xbox Series X Fridge Is Real, and Microsoft Is Giving One Away

Xbox is leaning heavily into the memes by not only acknowledging the fact that its next-gen console looks like a refrigerator, but now it is actually giving away an Xbox Series X-themed refrigerator. There's even an official world premiere video for the kitchen monolith. Announced via Xbox's official Twitter account, the Xbox Series X Fridge is part of a sweepstakes that begins today and ends November 4, 2020 at 7:00 PM PST. Microsoft recently sent Snoop Dogg an Xbox Series X Fridge for his birthday - as well as a number of other celebrities and influencers - as part of its marketing for the upcoming next generation of consoles. The black refrigerator is shaped just like the Xbox Series X (or is it the other way around?) and features a light-up Xbox logo in the top left corner, as well as what has to be the world's largest disc drive. The inside is fully illuminated with green lighting, because why not, right? [ignvideo width=610 height=374 url=https://ift.tt/35DuK1G] Jokes have been circulating about the Xbox Series X and its resemblance to a certain kitchen appliance since it was revealed during The Game Awards in 2019. We’ve also noticed that the title features rudimentary raytracing, especially on glossy surfaces, like the metallic detail on Astro Bot’s helmet.

An additional observation: the game includes an update which massively changes the visuals. Digital Foundry points out that PS5 consoles have been in production for quite some time, and so developer Asobi Team had plenty of extra time to polish the title between manufacturing starting and now. This has resulted in some massive improvements, including animated foliage and shadowing. You can still play the full game without the update, but obviously we’d recommend you install the patch before diving in.

Path of Exile Delays 3.13 Launch Because of Cyberpunk 2077

Path of Exile’s 3.13 end-game expansion has been delayed until January because, as the developers explain in a new blog post, the original release date now coincides with Cyberpunk 2077’s new release date. “Yesterday, CD Projekt Red announced that Cyberpunk 2077 will now be released on December 10,” designer Chris Wilson writes in a new blog post. “We do not want to put our players in a position of having to choose between these two games, so we have decided to step out of the way and delay the release of Path of Exile 3.13 until January.” The original release date for the 3.13 update was December 11. Wilson says that the dev team still expects Path of Exile 3.13 to be finished by early to mid-December, but the team will begin working on the 3.14 expansion during the month of delay. Grinding Gear Games will put out a multi-week event for Path of Exile players over Christmas and New Year break as a replacement for the planned expansion. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2018/08/23/path-of-exile-review-2018"] The developers also caution that the delay will have a slight domino effect and will “probably cause” the release schedule to change a little bit during 2021 to accommodate the delay. Meanwhile, the shockwaves of Cyberpunk 2077’s latest delay is still being felt, not in the least by CD Projekt Red’s own social media team. [poilib element="accentDivider"] Matt T.M.
